HISTORY OF THE OSP
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “I and the person who looks after an orphan and provides for him, will be in Paradise like this,” putting his index and middle fingers together. [Sahih Al-Bukhari]
Orphan Sponsorship Program (OSP) at the University of Toronto, St. George Campus (UofT) was launched in 2003 as a voluntary student initiative, aiming to bring awareness to the situation of orphans and fundraise to sponsor orphans, trying to do what we can in helping out our global family, in the hopes of giving these kids a better life & future. The orphans are sponsored through Govt. of Canada registered charities and the donation covers education, health, food, shelter and other basic necessities for the orphans.
Since then, our efforts have been truly blessed:
Cumulatively in just 18 years, we’ve fundraised over $1,100,000!
This will enable us to annually sponsor over 193 orphans from over 22 countries, spanning 4 continents.
Our aim is to continue to help the orphans all over the world, to the best of our abilities year after year. We hope to achieve our aim by also encouraging and aiding others to start up similar orphan sponsorship initiatives at their university, school, campus, association, community, etc.
